BANGKOK – Thailand will step up its efforts to attract visitors from India – with honeymooners a key target.

“Our slogan is, ‘Fall in love in India, get married in Thailand’,” said Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, India director for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

TAT has launched a direct mail campaign targeting 200,000 prospective honeymooners – and their parents.

Thailand is hoping for 600,000 visitors from India in 2008, a 20 percent increase on 2007.

Marketing activities include high visibility in the marketplace through billboard and magazine advertising, PR activities and a dedicated TAT website for India.

Bollywood celebrity fever will be embraced by the June 2008 hosting of the India International Film Awards, hosted in the UK last year and televised to Indians around the world.

Another promotion in India will involve customers of a supermarket chain who will be eligible for prizes of trips to Thailand when they make purchases in the chain’s outlets.
